Mira-Bhayandar: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has ushered in a new era of urban mobility with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art double-decker flyover in Mira Bhayander. The landmark project, a key component of Metro Line-9, was inaugurated om Saturday by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

The flyover, extending from Sai Baba Nagar Metro Station near S.K. Stone Junction to Shivar Garden, is built on a shared pier structure that integrates metro and road transport seamlessly. This engineering marvel is expected to significantly reduce congestion, enhance connectivity, and improve traffic movement in the rapidly growing urban hub.

The 850-meter-long flyover features a 17-meter-wide carriageway with two lanes in each direction, ensuring smooth traffic flow. It has 21 shared piers with the Metro Line-9 viaduct, maximizing space utilization and structural efficiency. The infrastructure also includes a 122.6-meter up-ramp and a 153-meter down-ramp, facilitating easier vehicle movement.

Designed with advanced safety measures, the flyover is equipped with RCC anti-crash barriers, reflective signage, lane markings, and speed limit indicators. An efficient drainage system has been installed to prevent water accumulation, while rumble strips and speed breakers regulate vehicle speed. Street lighting at 25-meter intervals enhances night-time visibility, ensuring safer travel.

It is part of MMRDA’s broader Metro Line-9 initiative, which includes three flyovers designed to enhance road connectivity while integrating metro operations. The first flyover, between Pleasant Park and Silver Park Signal, has been operational since August 2024, while the third is slated for completion by August this year.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis hailed the project as a transformative step towards world-class urban infrastructure. "This double-decker flyover is a testament to our commitment to enhancing mobility and fostering economic growth. By integrating metro and road transport on the same pillars, we are optimizing space, reducing congestion, and making travel more efficient," he said.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said, "This is more than just a flyover; it is a promise delivered. With Mira Bhayander’s rapid urbanization, this project is a crucial step in addressing congestion and improving connectivity. Our goal is to make travel easier, safer, and more efficient for every commuter. This initiative showcases how integrated transport solutions can transform cityscapes."

Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee (IAS) underscored the project’s forward-looking approach stating that MMRDA is committed to building infrastructure that not only meets today’s needs but is also future-ready.

"This double-decker flyover is a significant achievement, combining efficiency, sustainability, and advanced engineering. With metro operations soon to commence on the second deck, Mira Bhayander will witness a complete transformation in urban transport," he added.
