Sonakshi Sinha On Not Converting: Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal registered their marriage in a private ceremony in June last year after dating each other for 7 years. Their marriage was much talked about. The most talked about topic was whether Sonakshi would change her religion after marriage. Now, 9 months after marriage, the actress has spoken openly about this. She told that religion never came in the way of their relationship and neither did anyone ask each other to change their religion.

In an interview, Sonakshi said, 'We never thought about religion. We are just two people who love each other and wanted to get married. He did not impose his religion on me and I did not impose mine on him. We just respect each other's cultures.' Sonakshi also told that they got married under the Special Marriage Act, due to which they did not have to change their religion.

Marriage under Special Marriage Act

She said, 'The best way for us was to get married under the Special Marriage Act. I remained the same as a Hindu girl and Zaheer as a Muslim boy. Marriage only meant love and coming together of two people. There was never a question of conversion between us. Love was the most important for us'. The special thing is that Sonakshi and Zaheer chose the same date for their marriage when they started dating each other 7 years ago.

7 year old dating date chosen for marriage

The two started dating each other on June 23, 2017 and got married last year on June 23, 2024. After the wedding, the two also celebrated with their family and close friends. After marriage, Sonakshi always made it clear that religion was never an issue in their relationship. She said that both of them are happy with their respective religions and they never even discussed it.

Both follow their own customs

According to Sonakshi, 'We respect each other's family traditions. They follow their customs and I follow mine. This mutual understanding and respect is the hallmark of a successful relationship'. As far as career is concerned, Sonakshi was seen in the horror comedy film 'Kakuda' last year, in which she was accompanied by Ritesh Deshmukh and Saqib Saleem. This film was released on the OTT platform ZEE5.
