Dana White provides 'confident' update on Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall UFC super-fight

UFC supremo Dana White is 'confident' that the potential heavyweight super-fight between and will take place this summer.

Aspinall recently that Jones' side was holding up potential negotiations. "Where we’re at right now is, I have spoke to the on multiple occasions on this fight. I’m chasing it,'' he said. "I want the fight. I’ve been on record and said that I want the fight. I’ve been on the phone with the UFC saying, ‘I want the fight. When’s it happening?’ I want the fight more than anyone. What is holding it up right now is his side. That’s the truth of it. The UFC really, really want the fight to happen. They’ve told me that."

The Brit after Jones suffered a brutal injury ahead of his heavyweight title defence. Aspinall even defended the strap in his last fight, . As for 'Bones', the American superstar was last seen in action back in November - .

Since the demolition job of Miocic, Jones has been tipped to finally go head-to-head with Aspinall inside the cage despite flirting with the idea of retiring from the sport. At the UFC 313 post-fight press conference on Saturday night, White provided an update on the potential clash.

Much to the delight of many MMA fans, the UFC boss revealed he's very confident that the mouthwatering showdown will finally take place. "Listen, Jon Jones definitely wants the fight. It's just when and where is what we're working on right now," he said. "I'm very confident this fight happens." When asked whether it will take place in the summer, White replied: "Yeah."

His comments came just days after he revealed the winner could take on Alex Pereira. “The plan is [for Aspinall] to fight Jon this summer,” White, the UFC president, said on The Jim Rome Show. “Obviously when, where and all that stuff is being determined. My goal this year is to make that fight [with] Aspinall. I think that the fight that everybody wants to see right now is Jones and Aspinall, and then there’s no doubt that Pereira could fight the winner.”

White added: “The other thing about Pereira that everybody loves is, this guy wants to go up to heavyweight and fight at heavyweight, too. I’m the one that’s actually holding him back on that. He wants to [fight Jones]. Let’s see how this fight [against Ankalaev] plays out – if he wins, how he wins, all that kind of stuff.”

Those plans were potentially ruined after in Las Vegas on Saturday night. From start to finish, the Brazilian was unable to detonate his iconic left hook and really struggled to topple the Russian sensation.

“I knew it would be a war, every fight of mine is a war," said the former champion. “He put on some pressure, I felt some of his strikes, but putting me up against the cage he didn’t really do anything. We followed our strategy, but giving him the win with a gameplan like that, it kind of incentivises people to [just hold you against the fence]. I’m gonna take a few days off then get back to training.”
