The sequel of the critically acclaimed movie Tumbbad, Tumbbad 2, will go on floors later this year.

The movie has reportedly been given a budget of ₹100 crore, trade analyst Himesh Mankad recently confirmed on social media.

While the first part, headlined by Sohum Shah, struggled to find financial support, the sequel has reportedly piqued the interest of many leading studios.

The pre-production work for Tumbbad 2 has already started.

Director's exit

Notably, director Rahi Anil Barve won't be a part of the sequel.

Reacting to this, Shah earlier told Variety, "[Barve] has some fantastic work that he is creating and has a jam-packed schedule."

"I am super excited for the world to see his work and the stuff he'll give the audiences. Rahi's stamp, however, will always be on Tumbbad and its universe."

Adesh Prasad, who co-directed the original film, will helm the sequel.

It took a long time to lock the script
Delay

In October, Shah spoke to India Today about the writing process for the second part.

He said, "We have been trying to make Tumbbad 2 for the longest time."

"We were not able to crack the script in the writing stage. We are working with Yogesh Chandekar, the writer of Andhadhun, and Monica O My Darling. We have finally got it."

Shah has teased a third part in the series.

Shah earlier hinted at massive marketing campaign for the sequel
Marketing plans

Shah earlier told Hindustan Times in an interview, "I think the year's biggest learning was that I understood marketing a little, which is important for people making independent films."

"I feel we have understood some aspect of marketing with the Tumbbad re-release. We will see how much we have learned in the future, but this has been a good learning."

His increased marketing efforts will further help in attracting a large number of viewers for the sequel.

'Tumbbad' became a box office success upon re-release
Film's resurgence

Initially released in 2018, Tumbbad didn't do well at the box office because of its unconventional narrative.

However, after its re-release in 2024, it became a massive hit.

The film's unique storyline about three generations of a family facing consequences for building a mysterious temple for the firstborn deity resonated strongly with audiences.
