The efforts for a ceasefire in Lebanon have once again intensified. US special envoy Amos Hochstein arrived in Beirut on Tuesday to negotiate a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel. On Monday, Lebanon responded positively to the ceasefire proposal. After which Israel's response is awaited. If Amos Hochstein's discussions with Lebanese officials are successful, he will travel to Israel on Wednesday to take it forward.

"Lebanon has a very positive view of this proposal. We have made a lot of progress in this regard," a Lebanese official told AFP, adding that final preparations are being made on the draft. US envoys are arriving in Beirut to discuss the final process of this draft.

Ali Hassan Khalil, a Lebanese MP and a top political aide to Nabih Berri, told Reuters that the Lebanese side, including Hezbollah, had agreed to the US proposal for a ceasefire with Israel. Khalil described the proposal as the most serious effort so far to end the war. Khalil also said that Lebanon had submitted its written response to the US Ambassador to Lebanon Lisa A. Johnson.

While Hezbollah and Lebanon have indicated their willingness to accept the US proposal, Israel's response is now awaited. Despite this progress, Israeli officials have not yet given any formal response to the US ceasefire proposal.

US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said on Monday that Washington has shared the proposals with both the Lebanese and Israeli leadership. Miller also told the media that both sides have responded to the proposals and discussed the idea of implementing Resolution 1701.

Earlier this month, the KAN public broadcaster published leaked US proposals calling for the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, passed in 2006 to end the Second Lebanon War, and for Hezbollah to move its forces north of the Litani River.

According to a report by the US newspaper Axios, the most recent draft includes a 60-day transition period in which Israeli forces will withdraw from southern Lebanon, the Lebanese army will be stationed close to the border and Hezbollah will move its heavy weapons north of the Litani. It is reported that this proposal has almost been accepted by Lebanon.
