'No reason to worry': Union health minister Nadda

Union health minister JP Nadda reassured the public regarding the HMPV virus, stating that the ministry is closely monitoring the situation and there is no cause for concern. Nadda clarified that HMPV, first identified in 2001, is not a new virus and has been circulating globally for years.

"It was first identified in 2001 and it has been circulating in the entire world since many years," he said.

He explained that it spreads through the air, affecting all age groups, particularly during winter and early spring. The ministry is also monitoring HMPV developments in China and neighbouring countries, with no surge in cases reported in India.

"The health systems and surveillance networks of the country remain vigilant, ensuring the country is ready to respond promptly to any emerging health challenges. There is no reason to worry. We are closely monitoring the situation," Nadda said in his video statement.
