COIMBATORE: Aathi Thamizhar Katchi members tried to throw beef at the BJP party office on the VKK Menon Road in Coimbatore on Monday afternoon. The meat they threw fell on the road at least 50 metre away from the BJP office.

The city police secured five people for holding the protest.

Recently, the police registered a case against a BJP functionary for threatening a couple who were selling beef on a pushcart.

On Monday, Aathi Thamizhar Katchi members held a protest demanding the arrest of the BJP functionary. As many as five people from the organisation gathered in front of the MDMK office on the VKK Menon Road on Monday afternoon holding their party flags. They marched towards the BJP office. Police intercepted them, and one of the protesters threw beef towards the BJP office. The meat fell on the road, and the protesters raised slogans demanding that the BJP functionary be arrested under the National Security Act (NSA) for threatening the couple who sold beef and demanded a ban on the BJP.

Aathi Thamizhar Katchi district president Vincent raised slogans stating that beef was their right. Later, the protesters threw the photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on the VKK Menon Road.

Police arrested the five members of the Aathi Thamizhar Katchi, and they were kept in a marriage hall.

A few days ago, the Thudiyalur police in Coimbatore city registered an FIR against BJP functionary Subramani for threatening a couple, Abitha and Ravi, for selling beef on a pushcart eatery at Udaiyampalayam. The video of the incident went viral on social media, and various organisations lodged complaints with the city police officials. The police received a complaint from Abitha and registered an FIR against Subramani on Thursday.
