TN govt extends Rs 1.5crore to establish Houston Tamil Studies Chair

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu govt has extended Rs 1.5 crore towards establishment of Houston Tamil Studies Chair at the University of Houston, Texas, in the US.

In his greetings to the Tamil diaspora in the US, chief minister M K Stalin said, “It gives me immense pleasure to extend the support of the Tamil Nadu govt significantly for the establishment of the Houston Tamil Studies Chair at the University of Houston.”

The chief minister said that Tamil, the world’s oldest living and classical language, stood as a testament to an enduring legacy.

He expressed confidence that the Houston Tamil Studies Chair would play a pivotal role in showcasing the richness of Tamil culture globally, inspiring future generations and fostering research on Tamil trade, culture, and tradition, spanning thousands of years.

The Tamil Nadu govt has been continuously extending financial support for the establishment of Tamil Chair in the varsity. So far, the successive govts in the state have extended Rs 3.4 crore towards the initiative.
