One more arrested in murder attempt case
T'puram: Mannanthala police recorded the arrest of one more person in connection with a case involving the attempted murder of a youth. According to police, the father of a suicide victim, along with a relative, had hired men to murder the youth.
The arrested person has been identified by police as Jiju, 32, son of Preman of Vadakkevilakam Veedu near Cheruvakkal at Ulloor. With the latest arrest, the total number of people arrested in the case has become four.
Santhosh Kumar, 58, of Perayathukonam at Nedumangad, Manu Swarna Pallan, 35, of Karimbalivila Veedu at Cheruvakkal, and Sooraj, 24, of Ulloor were earlier arrested.
They are accused of attempting to murder Anujith, 22, of Santhosh Bhavan at Venkode. Anujith was in a relationship with Santhosh's daughter; however, she died by suicide in Feb this year.
Santhosh wanted to take revenge on Anujith as he believed that the youth was the reason for the woman's suicide. With the help of his nephew Jiju, he hired Manu and Sooraj to kill Anujith and offered them Rs 3 lakh for the crime. The men orchestrated accidents twice to kill Anujith, but he escaped with minor injuries.
Jiju, Manu, and Sooraj worked together at a construction site. They conspired to kill Anujith at a bar near the medical college hospital. Jiju has been remanded after being produced before a court on charges under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 61 (2) for criminal conspiracy and 109 for attempt to murder.
