Organs harvested from braindead at Salem GH
Salem: Doctors at the Salem Govt Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital (SGMKMCH ) on Saturday harvested organs from a braindead man.
Dr J Devi Meenal, dean, SGMKMCH , said C Sampath, 34, of Thumbai near Sankarapuram in Kallakurichi district, was brought to the hospital for advanced treatment on November 21 after he suffered severe injuries in an accident on November 20 when an unknown vehicle knocked him down from his motorcycle near Pudu Pallapattu in his home district.
"We provided him the best possible treatment till Friday, but there was no improvement. Subsequently, Sampath was declared braindead on Saturday. After receiving consent from his family, our medical team harvested the organs and sent them to hospitals in Coimbatore and Chennai for patients in need," the dean said.
