Trio who robbed youth of gold chain at knifepoint imprisoned
Coimbatore: A three-member gang was arrested on Saturday for robbing a youth of a gold chain weighing 6.5 sovereigns at knifepoint near Annur here on Thursday night. Police also arrested another person, who helped the gang sell the stolen gold chain.
The Annur police identified the arrested robbers as M Rajesh, 24, M Divakar, 19, both natives of Madurai district, and M Tamilselvan, 20, of Ramanathapuram district. Their friend, M Mukeshwaran, 19, of Madurai district, was also nabbed for giving shelter to them and helping them sell the stolen item.
An investigation officer said the trio, who were under the influence of alcohol, targeted A Ajith Kumar, 26, of Nothapur village in Perambalur district, when he visited a private engineering firm at Manickampalayam near Annur on Thursday night in search of a job.
"While the youth was walking to a tea shop, the trio threatened him at knifepoint and made away with his gold chain. The trio directly went to the room of Mukeshwaran at No 4 Veerapandi near Periyanaickenpalayam. Mukeshwaran later helped them sell the gold chain," the officer said.
On Friday, Kumar lodged a complaint with the Annur police, who registered a case and traced the robbers who were working with a banian company at Manickampalayam. "We have recovered the stolen gold chain from them. All the arrested four were on Saturday produced before a judicial magistrate , who remanded them in judicial custody," the officer said.
