Udaipur bids farewell to Mahendra Singh Mewar
Udaipur: Former Lok Sabha MP and member of the Mewar ex-royal family, Mahendra Singh Mewar (83), was laid to rest at the family's cremation grounds at Mahasatiya in Udaipur on Monday. His son, BJP MLA Vishvaraj Singh Mewar, conducted the final rites. The final procession commenced as a Dol Yatra at 11am from Samor Bagh Palace in Udaipur. Vishvraj Singh Mewar and grandson Devjaditya Singh accompanied the Dol Yatra.
Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and BJP state president Madan Rathore paid their respects to the deceased at Samor Bagh Palace and placed a wreath. Former BJP state president Satish Poonia and numerous dignitaries and civil servants too offered floral tributes to Mahendra Singh Mewar.
Considerable crowds gathered along the procession route for a final glimpse, and several markets in Udaipur city remained shut to show reverence.
Mahendra Singh Mewar's son Vishvraj Singh serves as BJP MLA from Nathdwara and daughter-in-law Mahima Kumari represents Rajsamand as MP. Singh passed away on November 10 following a cerebral stroke.
