Minister urges workers to prioritise workplace safety

Chennai: The 54th National Safety Day was celebrated at Saint Gobain India, Sriperumbudur, on March 4 in the presence of labour welfare and skill development minister C V Ganesan.

Addressing the gathering, Ganesan urged workers to prioritise workplace safety, emphasising that safeguarding workers' health would boost the country's economy. He highlighted govt initiatives such as increasing group personal accident insurance for fireworks and match factory workers from 50,000 to 5 lakh and providing 4 lakh relief to families of those who died due to heatwaves.

Director of industrial safety and health S Ananth stressed the importance of eliminating unsafe practices at workplaces. A handbook on occupational heat hazards was also released during the event. TNN
