Ranchi celebrates Holika Dahan with traditional fervour
Ranchi: The city witnessed grand celebrations of Holika Dahan on Thursday, marking the beginning of Holi festival. Residents from across the city gathered at designated locations to participate in the traditional burning of Holika's effigy, symbolizing triumph of good over evil.
Preparations began early morning with people cleaning and decorating the designated sites. As evening approached, bonfires were lit amidst religious chants, with devotees offering traditional items like pua, gram jhangri, and wheat ears. Participants exchanged greetings while applying gulal on each other.
A priest from Palamu, Aditya Mishra, said, "While the most auspicious time for Holika dahan is after 10:45 pm, people can perform the rituals at night."
Some areas commenced celebrations after 8:00 pm.
A young resident of Lalpur, Ritik Sharma, said, "Holi is my favourite festival. The colours, music, and celebrations unite people, while Holika dahan represents defeating negativity."
Sanjay Kumar Singh from Bhutiya Talab highlighted the community's involvement, noting how residents contributed firewood and ensured adherence to the rituals. "The collective participation made the festival more meaningful," he added.
