To speed up flyover project, traffic curbed on Dimna-Mango route
Jamshedpur: The Jamshedpur district administration has announced significant traffic restrictions on the Dimna-Mango route to accelerate the ongoing flyover construction project. The new traffic regulations, set to be implemented after Holi, will substantially alter vehicle movement patterns in the area.
Under the new directives, heavy vehicles traveling to Mango from Dimna will face complete prohibition. Smaller vehicles will be redirected through the Darbhanga Dairy and Blue Bells school lane to reach Sakchi from the Dimna end. Additionally, long-distance passenger buses will no longer be permitted to enter the Bhuyadih bus terminus.
District collector Ananya Mittal announced that buses arriving in the city will now terminate at a temporary location near Vasundhara Estate at Dimna chowk on National Highway (NH-33), the site designated for the proposed long-distance bus terminus. This change means outstation passengers must travel to the temporary terminus on NH to board buses, while arriving passengers will need to switch to smaller vehicles to enter the city.
To ensure smooth traffic flow, the administration has outlined several supporting measures. The traffic police and transport authorities will identify alternative routes for heavy commercial vehicles entering and exiting the city. Additionally, adequate police personnel will be deployed along the Darbhanga-Blue Bells lane to manage traffic flow.
The administration plans to relocate vegetable and fruit vendors from the affected routes and remove unauthorized shops and encroachments to create wider passages for vehicles. "These restrictions are essential to expedite the flyover construction work," emphasized DC Mittal.
The ambitious infrastructure project, being executed by Gujarat-based Dinesh Chandra Agarwal agency, involves constructing a 2.8-km-long flyover at an estimated cost of Rs 461 crore. The construction, which began in Sep 2024, is scheduled for completion within 18 months.
The flyover project aims to significantly improve urban mobility with a four-lane stretch on the Dimna road and a two-lane section on the Purulia road. The district collector has directed the implementing agency to ensure timely completion of the project while maintaining construction quality.
