Baiju: 'Power group' wrecked Macta
T'puram: Macta Federation president Baiju Kottarakkara alleged on Wednesday that the ‘power group' mentioned in the Hema Committee report was responsible for the destruction of Macta, the pioneering formal organization of creative technicians in Malayalam film industry. He also alleged that most drivers in the industry have criminal backgrounds.
He further stated that attempts to organize a conclave involving director B Unnikrishnan and actor-legislator M Mukesh should be obstructed by govt. He was speaking at a joint press conference with INTUC-led film workers' association IFTA.
Former minister and IFTA president Pandalam Sudhakaran called for the release and implementation of the shelved Adoor Gopalakrishnan Committee report, which he believes is highly beneficial for film sector. He argued that holding a conclave for film policy formulation is unnecessary and that representatives from IFTA and Macta Federation should be included in all govt forums related to film industry. Sudhakaran also stated that those accused of crimes should be excluded from film policy formulation forums and criticized govt's move to protect criminals.
INTUC has come forward to support Macta Federation in addressing issues within film industry, as announced by INTUC president R Chandrasekharan. IFTA, along with Macta Federation, will submit a memorandum to culture minister Saji Cherian.
