Kolkata is a time capsule: Shenaz

Hero Image
From her debut in the romantic comedy Ishq Vishk to notable films like Delhi Belly and The Big Sick, actress and vlogger Shenaz Treasury has amassed a fan following for her vivacious personality and relatable content. In the city for a literary festival, the actress hopped, skipped, and jumped from one landmark to another and ate to her heart’s content. In a chat with CT, Shenaz spoke about the old-world charm of Kolkata, her city faves, and all that she did during her stay.

'I took a tram ride & felt transported back in time. It was packed with older passengers, adding to the nostalgic vibe. I truly hope that trams don’t fade away from Kolkata'

Shenaz’s Kolkata diaries
From visiting iconic spots in town to trying local food, Shenaz had the time of her life in Kolkata. “I went to the Howrah Bridge and the flower market. I spent Makar Sankranti by the ghats – it was incredible. I also visited Coffee House and College Street. It was amazing to be in a coffee shop that transcends generations,” said Shenaz. She shared how the city was once a party hub for her father.“My dad has great memories of
Kolkata. For him, it was a party place. He used to go to the iconic eatery where Usha Uthup once sang in a sari. I’ve been to Kolkata before, but this was the first time I truly explored the city,” she added.

What’s on the menu?
It isn’t rare to fall in love with Kolkata’s food, especially if it is phuchka, and it was no different for the actress. “I came to Kolkata for the literary fest but stayed over for some time. I snacked on a lot of phuchka. I visited a joint in south Kolkata which had the craziest versions – from Schezwan to cola phuchka,” exclaimed Shenaz, who is also in love with the shorshe maach served here.

‘To be in Kolkata means stepping back in time’
Speaking about the old-world charm of Kolkata, the actress said, “The old architecture of the city really makes
it stand out. It has a very nostalgic old feel to it and makes you feel like you have stepped back in time and in a good way. But the way people throw garbage everywhere without any shame really disappointed me.” Shahnaz added, “I wish people in the city take cleanliness and hygiene
more seriously.”

The Howrah bridge impressed me the most. It is a huge, busy bridge and not really a touristy spot. But is even more beautiful than the Brooklyn Bridge in New York
