Terracotta gets a modern twist with Aarti Gupta Bhadauria's stunning sculptures
Aarti Gupta Bhadauria's solo exhibition of terracotta sculptures, titled Terracotta Reimagined: The Transformative Sculptures is currently on display at a five star hotel in Bangalore, and will be on till March 21. The exhibition offers an immersive experience into her world of expressive, non-representational sculptures, showcasing the artist's ability to channel emotions into tangible forms.
The exhibition's opening day on February 21 saw an overwhelming turnout of both domestic and international visitors, who were captivated by the intricate details and emotional depth of her work.
Aarti, known for her unique approach to terracotta, emphasises that every sculpture tells a story. "Each piece is born out of an emotion, and each side expresses a different interpretation," she says. Her pieces, which can take up to six months to complete, are entirely one-of-a-kind. "Even I cannot make an exact replica of any of my pieces," Aarti adds, highlighting the personal and time-intensive nature of her craft.

With a technique that blends traditional terracotta with contemporary artistic expression, Aarti has gained significant recognition both in India and internationally. She is the only Indian female artist to have received multiple international awards in terracotta sculpture and has represented India on various global platforms. Aarti is determined to break the conventional association of terracotta with pottery and folk art, aiming to place it firmly within the realm of contemporary fine art.
Through this exhibition, Aarti continues to push the boundaries of her medium, giving terracotta a modern twist while maintaining its timeless emotional resonance. Visitors have been deeply moved by her talent for translating emotion into form, making this exhibition a must-visit for art lovers.
