US President-elect Donald Trump's transition team announced on Friday that former campaign official Steven Cheung will serve as White House communications director in his upcoming administration.

Cheung previously held the position of director of communications during Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and served as director of strategic response during Trump's first term. In his new role, he will also hold the title of assistant to the president.

The transition team also announced the appointment of Sergio Gor as director of the Presidential Personnel Office.

"Steven Cheung and Sergio Gor have been trusted advisors since my first presidential campaign in 2016 and have continued to champion America First principles throughout my first term, all the way to our historic victory in 2024,” Trump said in a statement. “I am thrilled to have them join my White House as we Make America Great Again!"

Trump has not yet named a White House press secretary, a separate position from communications director.
