Kalaburagi: Murder convict who escaped from hospital 11 years ago arrested in Pune
Kalaburagi: A convict serving a life sentence for the murder of an on-duty police constable was arrested in Pune after being on the run for 11 years. The Kalaburagi Suburban Police, led by CPI Santosh Tatteppalli, conducted a special operation to apprehend the escaper.
The arrested individual, identified as Ambareesh alias Ambadas Natikar, was convicted in 2010 for the 2009 murder of Constable Ashwin Kumar. The incident occurred near Biddapur Colony when the accused fatally attacked the constable during a night patrol. Following his conviction, the district sessions court sentenced him to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000.
Initially lodged in Kalaburagi Central Prison, Ambadas was later transferred to Vijayapura Central Prison due to conflicts with other inmates. In 2014, citing health issues, he was admitted to a government hospital for treatment, where he managed to escape from the hospital ward.
After years of investigation, police received credible information about his whereabouts in Pune. A special police team apprehended him and presented him before the court.
Speaking to the media, Kalaburagi Police Commissioner Dr. Sharanappa Dhage expressed satisfaction over the successful operation. Deputy Commissioners of Police Kanika Sikarwal and Praveen Nayak, along with other officials, were present at the press briefing.
