Koppal: Illegal sand miners attack officials during raid
Koppal: A shocking incident has come to light where officials from the Department of Mines and Geology were attacked by illegal sand miners near Chikka Sindogi village in Koppal taluk.
The assault took place when a team of three officials from the Mines and Geology Department, including Sachin Gauripur, raided an illegal sand mining site at Hirehalla on Friday afternoon. As the officials attempted to stop the illegal operations, a group of eight individuals at the site turned violent and attacked them.
The attack escalated when the officials stopped a tractor transporting illegally mined sand and instructed the driver to unload it. In response, the eight individuals loading the sand assaulted Sachin Gauripur, leaving him severely injured. He was immediately rushed to the district hospital for treatment.
Reports indicate that illegal sand mining has been rampant in Koppal taluk, allegedly with the backing of influential individuals. The growing threats against officials trying to curb such illegal activities raise serious concerns.
Following the incident, Senior Geologist Rasheed from the Department of Mines and Geology has decided to file a case at the Alawandi Police Station, seeking legal action against the attackers.
