Hassan: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has proposed suspending vehicular movement on Shiradi Ghat for at least a month to expedite the four-lane highway construction on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru National Highway-75.

The Hassan district administration is expected to impose traffic restrictions from March 15 to the end of April to facilitate the completion of the project by June 30.

On Thursday, Member of Parliament Shreyas Patel inspected the construction site and discussed the need for an uninterrupted work schedule.

Officials informed him that concrete laying on a single lane requires at least 25 days for curing, necessitating a temporary traffic ban on the stretch. Sakleshpur Sub-Divisional Officer Shruti briefed the MP about the need for the restriction.

Alternative routes for vehicles have been identified, and an official announcement on the exact closure dates will be made soon.

As part of the project, a 10 km stretch from Donigal Cross to Maranahalli is being converted into a four-lane concrete road. So far, 4.8 km of the roadwork has been completed.

Additionally, retaining walls are being constructed at landslide-prone areas to prevent future disruptions, according to NHAI officials.
