Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh has landed in hot water over the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in his upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3. FWICE Calls for Action Against Film’s Team
The FWICE, a prominent body representing film industry workers, has accused Diljit and the film’s team of “disrespecting national sentiment” by involving a Pakistani artist in their project. In an open letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the federation demanded that Diljit, along with producers Gunbir Singh Sidhu, Manmord Sidhu, and director Amar Hundal, be blacklisted from the Indian film industry .

"The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) expresses its strongest condemnation and absolute outrage against actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh, Gunbir Singh Sidhu, Manmord Sidhu and Director Amar Hundal who have brazenly insulted the Indian film industry and disrespected national sentiment by hiring Pakistani actress Ms. Hania Aamir for their upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3...

The letter further urged the government 'to seize their passports and cancel their Indian citizenship', a move the FWICE feels is necessary in light of recent cross-border tensions .

Why the Uproar?
Hania Aamir’s presence in Sardaar Ji 3 became a flashpoint shortly after the film’s trailer was released. The backlash stems from her alleged comments following the Pahalgam terror attack and India’s military response during Operation Sindoor . FWICE has accused Hania of being a “vocal propagandist against India” and slammed the team for defying an industry-wide ban on Pakistani artists.

According to the film body, “casting Hania Aamir in Sardaar Ji 3 was not only a direct defiance of FWICE's official ban on Pakistani artists but also a shameful betrayal of our country and its people.”

They argue that working with Pakistani talent, particularly during times of national grief and conflict, sends a wrong message and “reveals where their loyalties lie.”

Diljit Reacts With Cryptic Post
Amid the growing criticism, Diljit took to social media to post a cryptic message: "Censored before release?" Fans were left wondering whether he was referring to the film’s uncertain fate in India or the backlash he’s been facing. Despite the uproar, he also shared the trailer on Instagram, with the caption, “Sardaar Ji 3 releasing 27th June OVERSEAS only. FADH LAO BHOOND DIAN LATTAN.”

Overseas-Only Release Amid Rising Tensions
Responding to the situation, producer Gunbir Singh Sidhu clarified that the film was completed before recent hostilities flared up. He emphasised that the makers have decided not to release the movie in India, citing “the present situation and the sentiments of India and the Indian people.”

On Tuesday, FWICE also approached the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), urging them to deny the film a censor certificate, effectively blocking its release within the country.

What Lies Ahead
Sardaar Ji 3, the third in a successful horror-comedy franchise, stars Diljit as a ghost hunter, alongside Hania Aamir and Neeru Bajwa. While the movie is set for an overseas release on June 27, its future in India remains uncertain, clouded by controversy, political sentiment, and a growing public outcry.

As of now, the government has not issued a formal response to FWICE’s demands. But with calls for passport revocation and cancellation of citizenship on the table, the controversy surrounding Sardaar Ji 3 has quickly escalated beyond cinema - touching on matters of national identity and cultural responsibility.
