Amazon Prime Video has announced Allen Iv3rson, a three-part documentary series set to premiere on October 23, just a day before the platform makes its debut as an official NBA broadcaster. The project celebrates the life, career, and cultural impact of Hall of Famer Allen Iverson , a player who forever changed the game on and off the court. He shared the court with many NBA legend including LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade.

What is Allen Iv3rson about?

Allen Iv3rson promises an unprecedented look at Allen Iverson ’s journey, from his early days in Hampton, Virginia, to his rise as one of the league’s most electrifying scorers. Directed by One9, known for projects on Nas and Nipsey Hussle, the documentary blends archival footage with interviews featuring Iverson himself, his family, teammates, and some of the sport’s biggest names.

Shaquille O’Neal, who competed against Iverson and now serves as a producer through his Jersey Legends imprint, explained the importance of this project: “After competing against Allen for many years, I’ve witnessed his greatness firsthand. I know the man Allen is, and I’m honored to tell his definitive story and show his impact off the court. Allen’s willingness to give One9 complete access to his life story will allow audiences to see the true Iverson for the first time.”

Stephen Curry , who partnered with Erick Peyton at Unanimous Media for the series, highlighted Iverson’s role in shaping today’s basketball culture. He called Iverson “a true original whose fearless authenticity reshaped the game and the culture around it,” adding that the film “goes beyond the highlights to explore the man behind the legend, from his upbringing to his lasting global impact.”

The series also reveals how Iverson’s unapologetic style, from his tattoos to his braids, set the stage for players to embrace individuality.

Allen Iverson’s lasting legacy

Iverson was drafted first overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in 1996. He won Rookie of the Year, became league MVP in 2001, and led the Sixers to the NBA Finals the same season. Despite his modest height of six feet, Iverson claimed four scoring titles and averaged more than 31 points per game in his peak season. Internationally, he represented Team USA in Athens, securing a bronze medal in 2004.

While Iverson never captured an NBA championship, his influence stretched far beyond trophies. His fearless play, cultural presence, and uncompromising authenticity set a blueprint that today’s stars continue to follow.
