Instagram is trialling a long-anticipated repost feature that may soon let users share others' posts directly to their main feed. Confirmed by the company to TechCrunch, this feature has been in the works since at least 2022 and is now finally being tested with select users.


This update would allow users to reshare not just their own content, but also interesting posts by others—directly within the scrollable feed, without relying on Stories or external apps.

Instagram currently hosts a variety of content types—Posts, Reels, Stories, Notes, DMs, and ads—and critics argue this could make the feed even more overwhelming.

For content creators, however, the repost tool could be a major win. Not only could it increase post visibility, but it also offers a more transparent way to credit original creators, especially for viral memes, photos, or educational posts that often circulate without proper attribution.
