In a new twist to the rising concern about fake paneer , YouTuber Sarthak Sachdeva has sparked a stir online. He recently claimed that Tori, a restaurant in Mumbai run by Shah Rukh Khan's wife Gauri Khan, is allegedly serving adulterated paneer. His video testing the paneer has gone viral, intensifying public curiosity and concern.

Gauri Khan’s restaurant became the center of attention after Sarthak conducted the iodine test—a method to detect starch in paneer. According to him, the paneer tested blue, indicating adulteration. But Tori has responded, saying the test doesn't prove the paneer is fake, only that it may contain fiber-rich or soy-based ingredients used in their dishes.

Sarthak didn’t stop at one test. He also visited restaurants linked to celebrities like Virat Kohli, Shilpa Shetty, and Bobby Deol, conducting the same test on their paneer offerings.

Let’s break it down—why is fake paneer even a thing?

Paneer is pricey. To cut costs, some places may mix starch, detergent, or synthetic milk to stretch their supplies. But it’s not just a money game—it’s a health hazard. Adulterated paneer can lead to digestion problems, food poisoning, and long-term health issues if consumed regularly.

Here’s how you can test paneer at home:

Boil a small piece of paneer in 5 ml of water.
Let it cool, then add 2-3 drops of iodine tincture.

If it turns blue, it means starch is present—your paneer could be fake.

Tori addressed the issue publicly:

“The iodine test detects the presence of starch and not the purity of the paneer. Our dish contains fiber-based ingredients. We are committed to the purity of our paneer and the quality of all our ingredients.”

As food safety concerns grow, this incident is a wake-up call for both customers and restaurants. Always stay informed, test smart, and don’t fall for fake food.
